We never knew that going to the houses of God freely by both Faith's to worship was indeed a rare privilege.

We never knew that going to work _and coming back home freely was a sheer favour_ of God. We often complained of the workload, we never knew we were privileged.

We never knew  mingling with our boss, senior ones and colleagues, sharing experiences about life together were just through the mercy of God, we never knew.

We never knew leaving our homes for official engagements, businesses, trade, vocation, family funfares and events and returned with complaints of stress, work tediousness and little dishes and gifts received were only allowed by almighty, we never knew.

In fact, we never knew going to the houses of God freely by both Faith's  to worship was indeed a rare privilege.

We never knew that walking freely on the streets, meeting friends and loved ones in the other neighborhoods were special favour from God.

We never knew it was a rare privilege being in the public buses, commercial cabs, boarding motorcycles, talking freely with other seat occupants and even lapping one another to save cost was a favour.

We never knew meeting people, staying closer to them, hugging, shaking hands freely were sheer favour of Almighty God.

We never knew all these as mere favour from God Almighty until it came like wild fire, a deadly scourge ravaging the universe, COVID 19, the plague of wails. It denies us our liberty. It confines us to our lone home territory. It reduces our bound to mere online link since. It shakes the powerful and weakens the vulnerable more.

Almighty God, we never knew all these were favour from you or we knew less and acted childishly in giving you praises.

O Lord, forgive us all our shortcomings, inadequacies and impiety. Have mercy on us all and save our souls from this plague. Return back to us days of liberty, joy and happiness.

God of mercy, when the good time returns, may we be counted alive and in sound health. Make our hearts full of gratitude to you always.

Why Catholics should not eat meat during Christmas Eve

One of the traditional acts of Christmas is to abstain from meat on Christmas Eve, 24th December.  I could still remember the temptation from the aroma of the fried chicken from my Mama Lucy's kitchen when I was 7 years old. I asked her for a bite and she shouted “Agbedo" meaning never!!! “Why grandma?” I asked, she took me by hands to the Church manger and showed me the animals in the crib: “Yes, Olu, we cannot eat meat on Christmas Eve because the animals were the ones who kept Jesus company at his birth, so we must respect them today''. “Waoo!” I exclaimed, “So that's why I cannot eat meat today...” I held unto this tradition until I entered Seminary only for us to eat plenty meat on the Christmas Eve. Then I asked: “Why are we not respecting the animals today?” And my brothers laughed at my ignorance.  Why then should grandma stop me from eating meat? According to Wikipedia, the Catholic Church historically observes the disciplines of fasting and abstinence a...

HOW OLD IS MARY TODAY ?

This question was raised during the celebration of the Nativity of mother Mary in 2021 at mass. Let's go into history to unravel how old she would had celebrated if she was physically with us today 8th September 2024.  Some apocryphal accounts state that at the time of her betrothal to Joseph, Mary was 12–14 years old. According to ancient Jewish custom, Mary could have been betrothed at about 12. Hyppolitus of Thebes says that Mary lived for 11 years after the death of her son Jesus, dying in 41 AD. Some ancient authors said that she gave birth to Jesus at 16. Now let's calculate  Jesus lived 30 years with Mary and worked for 3 years with his apostles meaning he died at 33. Hence 16 +33 + 2024 = 2073 So we arrived at her age with historical information from the Sacred tradition that could only be found in the Catholic Church  Am proud to be a Catholic  Happy 2073th  birthday to mother Mary Fr law SDV

Why are Popes buried in three Coffins?

Edited by Fr Lawrence Ogundipe SDV  The Popes are usually buried in three different coffins the question is why is it so? What is the significance of this tradition? Can it be changed?   The three coffins used for the internment of a Pope are as follows: A cypress coffin. The mortal remains of the Holy Father are placed inside this coffin. A copy of the program from the funeral Mass is placed in the innermost coffin made of cypress, as are bags of silver, gold, and copper coins. The number of coins in each bag equals the number of years of the papacy. The simple wooden coffin made of cypress signifies he is an ordinary human being like everyone else.  The coffin is sealed and wrapped with three silk ribbons before being placed in a lead casket. The picture below is the cypress coffin.  A lead casket -- The lead casket, which is soldered shut, is engraved with the pope's name and dates of his papacy, as well as a skull and crossbones. The lead coffin is mo...
