CAN I BE A SAINT?

CAN I BE A SAINT?
Yes!!!! Saints are drawn from all walks of life, kings, princesses, politicians, clergy men, thieves, harlots, the poor, the rich, children, adult, etc. there is no profession or vocation that is not represented among the galaxy of saints of the Holy Mother church. To be honest saints are part of our family they are our brothers and sisters. You can be a saint if you co-operate with the grace of God that is already sufficient for you. Do you know that saints were not created rather they were made. We all have equal chance to be saints. God, because of his infinite love for humanity gave us free will to choose what is good but often times we chose evil. We are responsible for our choices, yes, our sainthood. All the saints, from St. John the Baptist onwards, agree with one voice that holiness is attained only when we do well what we have to do. It is impossible for one to become a saint if he does not force himself to do what he is expected to do. A most important part of our ordinary life and being is the awareness that living means developing and perfecting our relationships first, with God and then our neighbors.

Saint Francis de Sales says "You learn to speak by speaking, to study by studying, to run by running, to work by working, and just so, you learn to love by loving. All those who think to learn in any other way deceive themselves." Hence to be a saint you must live like saints. J.M. Marus said”imitation is limitation” yes in a sense but in the spiritual realm proper Imitation of Jesus is perfection. The saints are saints because they imitate Jesus.
Pope Francis in one of his homilies says "You can have Defects, be anxious and live irritated sometimes, but do not forget that your life is the biggest company in the world. Only you can prevent her from going into decline. There are many who appreciate you, admire you and love you. I would like you to remember that to be happy, is not to have a sky without storms, road without accidents, works without fatigue, relationships without disappointments.
To be happy is to find strength in forgiveness, hope in battles, and security in the box of fear, love in disagreements. Being happy is not only valuing the smile, but also reflecting on sadness. It is not just to commemorate success, but to learn lessons in failures
Our goal in life is the divine union with the most Holy Trinity; we were created for God to love him, serve him and to be with him in eternity. Little wonder Saint Augustine exclaimed “our heart is restless until they rest in the Lord. Lucian of Antioch (240-312) an early Christian theologian and martyr, once said that “a Christian/s only relatives are the saints.” Those who follow Jesus Christ and seek the will of God enter into a new family, a family of saints here on earth and in heaven.

Why Catholics should not eat meat during Christmas Eve

One of the traditional acts of Christmas is to abstain from meat on Christmas Eve, 24th December.  I could still remember the temptation from the aroma of the fried chicken from my Mama Lucy's kitchen when I was 7 years old. I asked her for a bite and she shouted “Agbedo" meaning never!!! “Why grandma?” I asked, she took me by hands to the Church manger and showed me the animals in the crib: “Yes, Olu, we cannot eat meat on Christmas Eve because the animals were the ones who kept Jesus company at his birth, so we must respect them today''. “Waoo!” I exclaimed, “So that's why I cannot eat meat today...” I held unto this tradition until I entered Seminary only for us to eat plenty meat on the Christmas Eve. Then I asked: “Why are we not respecting the animals today?” And my brothers laughed at my ignorance.  Why then should grandma stop me from eating meat? According to Wikipedia, the Catholic Church historically observes the disciplines of fasting and abstinence a...

HOW OLD IS MARY TODAY ?

This question was raised during the celebration of the Nativity of mother Mary in 2021 at mass. Let's go into history to unravel how old she would had celebrated if she was physically with us today 8th September 2024.  Some apocryphal accounts state that at the time of her betrothal to Joseph, Mary was 12–14 years old. According to ancient Jewish custom, Mary could have been betrothed at about 12. Hyppolitus of Thebes says that Mary lived for 11 years after the death of her son Jesus, dying in 41 AD. Some ancient authors said that she gave birth to Jesus at 16. Now let's calculate  Jesus lived 30 years with Mary and worked for 3 years with his apostles meaning he died at 33. Hence 16 +33 + 2024 = 2073 So we arrived at her age with historical information from the Sacred tradition that could only be found in the Catholic Church  Am proud to be a Catholic  Happy 2073th  birthday to mother Mary Fr law SDV
