TRANSMISION OF FAITH AND MORALS

TRANSMISION OF FAITH AND MORALS

It pleased God, in his goodness and wisdom to reveal himself to Man, in His will. This economy of revelation is realized by deeds and words, which are intrinsically bound up with each other. God wishes to give eternal life to all those who seek salvation. He chose some leaders like Abraham and Moses with the race of Israel, and made them widely known among the nations, and at the fullness of time Jesus came down to live with human family. The mission of Evangelization which begins from Christ; the evangelizer, to the evangelizing Church, in which Jesus Christ Himself is the Good News of God (Lk 4:45) must therefore be transmitted from generation to generation.

The family therefore, has always been a privileged channel for the transmission of this Gospel. Parents transmit their faith by being and living like real Christians. When children perceive the generosity and Christian meaning of life through the words and behavior of their parents and grandparents, they gradually learn to follow their example and are oriented towards religious values and sacramental life: the meaning of God's fatherhood, love for the Eucharist, devotion to Our Lady, love of neighbor, etc.
For all this, the family, as bishop Odetoyinbo put it, is the basic reality with regard to the transmission of the faith, both in communities where the Christian faith is lived as a majority and in de-Christianized areas where concrete families, like the seed of a new society, become real schools of evangelization. Starting from family life, children begin a path of learning and deepening of the faith that continues in the parishes and other ecclesial institutions.
Our family dinner tables need to be more united with the altar at Mass, so our children and grandchildren will realize that we value their spiritual nourishment as much as their physical.
Chapter II of Dei Verbum: (Transmission of Divine Revelation) talks on respective functions of transmission, Scripture and the teachings office of the church in handing down through the ages the events of events of salvation history. The council is concerned with doctrinal tradition, not with ecclesiastical laws and customs. The council states that the church does not derive her certainty from scripture alone in matters of faith. It is clear therefore that in the supremely wise arrangement of God, sacred Tradition, sacred scripture and the Magisterium of the church are so connected such that one cannot do without the other still each has its own way under the action of the Holy Spirit.
According to Evangelii Nuntiandi, Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Paul VI The family serves as organs for transmission of faith and morals. As a basic institute of the church, state and society, the family is call to announce the Good News of hope to the human person during growth so as to nurture them. This can be done through education of the children and catechesis back at home so that they can attain Christian maturity. It brings about renewal to human race and makes the world deluges of saints, holy people of God.  By so doing, it necessitates a careful examination of the cultural valves.

TRASMISSIONE DI FEDE E MORALI
29 agosto 2018 Rome

Why Catholics should not eat meat during Christmas Eve

One of the traditional acts of Christmas is to abstain from meat on Christmas Eve, 24th December.  I could still remember the temptation from the aroma of the fried chicken from my Mama Lucy's kitchen when I was 7 years old. I asked her for a bite and she shouted “Agbedo" meaning never!!! “Why grandma?” I asked, she took me by hands to the Church manger and showed me the animals in the crib: “Yes, Olu, we cannot eat meat on Christmas Eve because the animals were the ones who kept Jesus company at his birth, so we must respect them today''. “Waoo!” I exclaimed, “So that's why I cannot eat meat today...” I held unto this tradition until I entered Seminary only for us to eat plenty meat on the Christmas Eve. Then I asked: “Why are we not respecting the animals today?” And my brothers laughed at my ignorance.  Why then should grandma stop me from eating meat? According to Wikipedia, the Catholic Church historically observes the disciplines of fasting and abstinence a

A Summary on Evangelii Nuntiandi 1975

A Summary on Evangelii Nuntiandi 1975 Pope Paul VI on December 1975 wrote to the Episcopate, Clergy and to all the faithful of the entire world on evangelization in the modern world. In his introductory part he emphasized that ,the condition of the society in which we live oblige us to seek for a new method on how to bring the Gospel message to the modern man, he explained that evangelization is not an occasional or temporary task but a permanent and constitutive necessity of the church, he therefore, called on all (cleric and lay faithful) to meditate and re-evaluate the three pertinent questions; “in our days what has happened to that hidden energy of the Good News, which is able to have a powerful effect on man’s conscience?, To what extent and in what way is that evangelical force capable of really transforming the people of this century?, What method should be followed in order that the power of the Gospel may have its effect?. The whole mission of Christ is summed up in the Go

HOW OLD IS MARY TODAY ?

This question was raised during the celebration of the Nativity of mother Mary in 2021 at mass. Let's go into history to unravel how old she would had celebrated if she was physically with us today 8th September 2024.  Some apocryphal accounts state that at the time of her betrothal to Joseph, Mary was 12–14 years old. According to ancient Jewish custom, Mary could have been betrothed at about 12. Hyppolitus of Thebes says that Mary lived for 11 years after the death of her son Jesus, dying in 41 AD. Some ancient authors said that she gave birth to Jesus at 16. Now let's calculate  Jesus lived 30 years with Mary and worked for 3 years with his apostles meaning he died at 33. Hence 16 +33 + 2024 = 2073 So we arrived at her age with historical information from the Sacred tradition that could only be found in the Catholic Church  Am proud to be a Catholic  Happy 2073th  birthday to mother Mary Fr law SDV
