THE MOST BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: CAUSE OF OUR JOY By REV FR PETER OGIATOR C.D.A A TALk DELIVERED  AT CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF ABEOKUTA ANNUAL DIOCESAN MARIAN PILGRIMAGE 2022  INTRODUCTION: HOW IT ALL BEGAN When God created the heaven and Earth, he looked at everything he created and he found it very good ( Gen 1, 2-26), however when  Adam sinned and the whole of mankind fell through their mistake, the world became dark and gloom, the world that was created out of physical and temporary  darkness, was thrown into a spiritual and more intense and dangerous darkness,  the whole world was thrown into confusion, turmoil, disarray, there was hostility between heaven and earth, it was so terrible that the gate of heaven was closed against mankind (Gen 3, 23- 24). There was no hope in sight. Imagine world powers like the United States, United Kingdom, closing its gates against Nigeria, the hardship will unimaginably terrible in every ramification of life. THEN THERE WAS D...

PUNISHMENT FOR ANY PRIEST THAT VIOLATES CONFESSIONAL SEAL IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

November 13, 2022    First of all ,  what is Confessional seal? The Seal of Confession (also known as the Seal of the Confessional or the Sacramental Seal) is the absolute duty of Priests  not to disclose anything that they learn from Penitents during the course of the Sacrament of Penance (Confession). As such, a Priest is never expected to disclose what he was told during Confession. ECUMENICAL COUNCILS ON  THE PUNISHMENT OF A PRIEST WHO VIOLATES THE  CONFESSIONAL SEAL Canon 21 of the Fourth Council of the Lateran (1215), binding on the whole Church, laid down the obligation of secrecy in the following words: "Let the Priest absolutely beware that he does not by word or sign or by any manner whatever, in any way, betray the sinner: but if he should happen to need wiser counsel let him cautiously seek the same without any mention of person. For whoever shall dare to reveal a sin disclosed to him in the tribunal of Penance, we decree that he s...

WHEN YOU CRITICIZE A PRIEST, PLEASE REMEMBER...

That though he represents God , he is human and so he has emotions , the priest can cry. Do not forget that a priest is not  married, nor will he have a family of his own. No wife, no children. His family is the people of God. He is a spiritual father in faith to the community he serves. His future is in celebrating the Eucharist at mass every day, listening to confessions, anointing the sick, serving those who come to him for help. Seeking out those who refused to  come for help but needs help.  priest may serve a parish only for a minimum of five to seven years. After that he may be transfered to another parish or assigned a different role in the Church. He relies on his team of volunteers, staff and the lay faithful. Don't expect him to be there all the time for you. When you give money to the Church, you may be surprised to know that the money is not for him because no priest earns a fixed salary. They receive a stipend to meet their basic expenses of food, clo...

A LETTER TO THE RELIGIOUS AND MISSIONARIES BY SR FLORENCE OSHO, EHJ

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Consecrated Life and Fellow Missionaries, INTRODUCTION When I was asked to write this letter to you I was in a dilemma concerning what I should write. On a second thought I felt there would be no harm caused if I should write to jolt your mind on this problem which is becoming alarmingly dangerous. I will begin with two questions. Do you believe there is a declination in the membership of the Catholic Church? How significant is it? In the last few decades the world has witnessed an explosion of new sects. It is observed that many Catholics are flocking into this these sects and our nation in Nigeria is not left out of this phenomenon. Some time ago I was discussing this problem with some friends and I can hear myself again saying to them that the population of Catholics that flock to the Pentecostal churches cannot equate the number that is baptized into the Catholic Church at Easter. I am tempted to believe that this is the many in which many of ...

A priest that does not reflect will be empty:

HOMILY OF BISHOP PETER  ODETOYINBO  OF  HOLY THURSDAY 2022 AT SS PETER AND PAUL CATHEDRAL, ITESI ABEOKUTA, Remember your leaders who preached the Word of God to you, and as you reflect on the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.  Jesus Christ is the same today as he was yesterday and as he will be forever. Do not let yourselves be led astray by all sorts of strange doctrines. (Heb.13:7-9a) Today and more than ever before the priesthood and priestly life and formation is facing a lot of crisis and challenges. These challenges have put many priests, young and old into confusion, crisis of identity with their vows, many have doubts of faith and conflicts in their social, ecclesiastical and moral status in the Church, among peers and in the society which are manifested in their comportments as individuals, as a presbyterium and even in the Liturgy and pastoral life. Often many do not know where they belong and in the bid of being sociable and relevant to th...
